Security Management magazine teamed up with mobile data
recovery experts MSAB to examine the attitudes and beliefs that corporate and
nongovernmental organization security managers have about extracting data from
mobile devices. In a survey of ASIS International members and customers
conducted in the Fall of 2018, three-quarters of respondents reported that they
did not use mobile forensics technology to extract and analyze data from mobile
devices.
Respondents were also asked what barriers the saw to using
the technology. “Limited budget for mobile forensic operations,” “shortage of
trained forensic technology users,” and “more and more phones are unable to be
unlocked or the data is unable to be decrypted,” were the three challenges cited
most often.
